Why Don’t We Blow Shofar on Shabbos? | Rebbe Nachman on Never Giving Up

SPEAKER_00

Bez Hashem, I want to share with you an idea, perhaps giving us a Derech of why we don't blow shofar on Shabbos that coincides with Rosh Hashanah. I mean, Tky's shofer is like you would think it's it's the Icker, yet when Rosh Hoshana falls out on Shabbos, we don't blow the shofar. Why? says the Gemara, the Gemaran Rosh Hashanah 29, 29A, or maybe 29b. No, it's 29b, okay? The Gemara says, Shema Yitlena Biyodo, perhaps you'll take the shofar in your hand, the Yalich Itzel Ha Baki Lilmood, and you'll go to an expert to learn, and you'll end up carrying four amos in the public domain. You know, Rabbi Nachmin in Torah Vov, Torah 6, tells us an interesting thing. He says that complete Teshuva requires us to be a Baki Baratzo and a Bhaki Bishov. That we have to become an expert in the realm of advancing in one's avudushem. Barozzo representing the idea of advancing, representing ascension, aliyah, clarity, good times, the ups of life. But a person, a part of a complete dishuva, requires of a person to also be a bhaki bishoiv, to be an expert in returning, an expert in the fall, an expert in the Yurida, in the down, in the low moments of life, to realize that Hashem is there too. In Rabbeinu's words, val you syoish at smololam, a person should never give up hope. Because right there, wherever you are, even in that lowly place, Hashem is there with you. And this is in the realm of like what David Amelch says, At Siya Shool, Hinecha, even in the lowest of the places, Hinecha, Hashem, you're there. The idea is not to give up. Without this, it's an incomplete teshuvah. You know, Rabbi Nachman said regarding Rosh Hashanah, Zeha Khag Shali, or Zeha Inyan Shali, this is my thing. Rosh Hashanah, he says, this is my holiday. And what else is Rabin Achmin's his pri one of his primary teachings that he brought to the world was that notion of Ain Shon Yush Ba'ilam Khal. There's no such thing as despair. Ayid is never allowed to give up. And that's because of this idea. That yes, a person's meant to be a baki barozzo, to be an expert in the realm of advancing and going up in his kadusha and advancing in his levels of closeness with Hashem. But also in the good times, but a but uh and parcel of being a yid is also being a baki bishv, being an expert in the Yerida, of realizing that Hashem is there. And Al Yisya Ishatzma, not giving up. There's no such thing as yush because Hashem is everywhere. Hashem is found right here, wherever you are. And my friends, this becomes the Avaida, perhaps, of Rosh Hashanah is realizing that wherever you are, that's where Hashem is. This is the greatest way to be macabre, to be macabre, the kingship, to be macabre o machushemaim. Like it says, Mahusobakol Mashallah, right? How do you show that? So of course, in moments of clarity, in moments of ascension aliyah, moments of Razzo, of course, we could connect Hashem and we could see his unity, we could see his kingship. But the the greatest raya that you've accepted Hashem's kingship is when you realize that he exists everywhere, not just in the upper realm, but even in the bottom realm, not just in the ups of life, but even in the downs. When a person can realize that even in the dumps, even in the garbage, even in the garbage bin, Hashem is still there with you, right where you are. That's Ishio Hineko. When a person realizes that, well, then you've just expanded your haqqar of Hashem in the greatest possible way, because you're realizing he's not just up there, but he's right here, down here with me. So this becomes the Avaida. What happens on the first day of Rosh Hashanah, with the anniversary or the birthday of Adam Arishon? Adam Rishon sins, Adam and Khava sin, and they hide from Hashem. They want to run away, they want to go somewhere else. They don't want to confront the Qurish Brach. They feel embarrassed, etc. What does Hashem tell them? Ayaka, where are you? Don't hide, don't go anywhere else. I'm asking you right where you are to find me, wherever you are, just to connect with me, to realize that I exist where we're the muckum that you understand that is Admas Kadesh. It's a place of holiness. Yes, are we gonna work to get out there? Are we gonna prove all of that? It's true. And we'll get to a place of baki baratza, the place of positive ascension, Aliyah, good times. But right now, in the dumps, in the realm of Shov, in the realm of returning, the realm of Nafila, in the realm of wherever you are right now, don't hide from me. Find me. Realize that I'm here. Al Yis Yo Ishmi Menu, don't give up. In Sham Yush Ba'ilam Klaw. That Rabbi Nachmin's Inyin, what he was his khidush to the world was Insham Yush. There's no such thing as giving up. And Rosh Hashanah, the day that he says, This is my holiday, this is the Avoid of the day. Realizing that I can't give up. We come into Rosh Hashanah buttuchim. We get dressed in our nicest clothing, and we shave and we trim and we get haircuts and we come in buttuah. In God we trust. Hashem, I you're you're you're my Hashem, you're my God, you're my king in the ups of life, but also in the downs. And Khazal tells us, perhaps this can explain the Gemara when it says, the Gizer Hashem, we're afraid of what? Why don't we blow the shofar on Shabbas? Because you might take the shofar in your hand and you'll the Yelech Itzel Buki lumod. You're gonna go to a bucky to learn. Right? If you're if if you don't know how to blow the shofar. So right now in this state, you're in a state of lowliness, you're in a state of unknowingness, you're in a state of I I need you you want to naturally ascend in your levels of understanding. And so what are we you're gonna do? You want to go. It's it sounds wonderful, it sounds idealistic, right? You don't know something, you're in a state of struggle right now. So let me go to a bucky, let me go to the other baki, the baki baratza. Let me let me go and learn what to do. Let me let me ascend to uh to a place of clarity so that then I'll know. But therein lies the problem, because the available rashona is not to do that. We can't go Viedhi Chitza Bhaki Lumo. The the Avaid of Rashana is not to go to the bhaki to learn, not to go to the opposite bhaki, to the baki baratza, but it's to stay right where you are in the bhaki bishop, right where you are in that state of struggle, in that state of unknowingness, and to realize that Hashem exists even there, that's the greatest riad that you've just been that you were just Mikabal. That's the greatest way to coronate Hashem is that wherever you are, Hashem is there. Maybe it's not a coincidence, the Yaelik Itzel Baki is actually Gematria, numerical value 299, the exact same as Baruzzo. That's that bucky, the Yale Kitzel Baki. We don't want you to do that. Don't go, don't go there, don't travel, don't hide, don't travel to other to another place, just wherever you are. Even in a lowly place, realize that Hashem is there. Aishem is calling out on this day, on the birthday of humanity. He's calling out Ayaka, where are you? Find me wherever you might be. And maybe this can explain. Um this, maybe this can explain, you know, the deeper idea of we're not belonging to shofar and shabbas because we're afraid you're gonna go to a baki. And we don't want you to go to that bucky, but we want you to stay right here in that in that bucky, in in that place of baki Bishov and Realize Hashem is even there. You know, and another riot to this, perhaps, is Rosh Hashanah falling out in the beginning of the month. Usually the young table fall out in the middle of the month, right? When the moon is more visible, but in the beginning of the month, the moon is hidden. Bakesa, right? It's it's said about Rosh Hashanah that it's in the realm of Bakesa Lyon Chagenu. It's a month that's hidden. It's it's a it's a month that's hidden, it's dark. There's a level of concealment, there's a level, right? There's a level of din, judgment, level of concealment, a level of in that realm of Shuv, Shoiv, right? But yeah, we're supposed to find Hashem even there, even in that concealment, right? I saw an amazing idea. The Megalamukos reveals that the Roshitevos, Numerako, not Numerako, the Roshitevos first letters of of El, right? Meaning Elol is there's so many remazem, but one remes for El is Aron Luchos Vishre Luchos. Aron Luchos Vishri luchos, the chazal tell us that the luchos and the shivre luchos, the complete set of tablets and the broken ones were put into the aron. And this, the the Avoida from this past Elul was realizing that all of this comes into play in a boy's Hashem. The luchos, that's the Baki Barazzo, that's the moments of clarity, that's the takiyya, that's the straight shooter, the moments of tarah, purity of ascension, aliyah, growth, good times, amazing. But then there's the shvarman and the truh, there's the brokenness, that's the the shivre luchos, those are the pieces. That's the sho the shiv. But we're told all of it goes into the aron. Aaron, Luchos and Shivre Luchos, that's Elol. And then we come into, then we come into Rajashana, realizing that right here, wherever we are, yes, there's the takiyyah, yes, there's the luchos that are intact, but there's also the Shvaram and the Trua, there's also the Shivre Luchos. We have to become a Baki in the realm of Shov, Baki in that place about Si, Shal Hinaka, Hashem is right there, realizing in Shemush Bel Mkla, understanding that the way to be Makabal of the kingship is in everything in my life, not just the ups, but even in the downs. Because if I could be Makabal, Hashem right here in the moments of lowliness, so then I I'll be Makabul him uh or wherever and everywhere. And so that's ultimately our goal as Hashem that we should have. Of course, we want a year of tremendous aliyah and growth, but we want to be able to see Hashem and find him wherever we might be. And this becomes perhaps the Avaida of no chauffeur on Shabbos because we're not allowed to go to that baki. We're afraid, Vyede Khaitzel Baki, Gematria Biratso, we're afraid you're gonna go to that baki, that that baki of biratso, when in reality the way to have a complete dishuva is to tap into the place where you are at right now, to become a baki, to realize that that's all he nakahem, you're right here wherever you are, and that's the greatest way to accept Hashem's kingdom. We should all be Zahitaka to do that, to accept Hashem's kingship wherever we are, Umahu Soba, call Mashallah, and we should all be Zajid to be written in the book of life and have a tremendous meaningful uplifting yantif. And yes, it's at the time of Bakesa, Liaimhagenu, but Hashem should give us tremendous clarity, even in those lowly moments, to realize that Hashem is right here with us, and that should give us a sense of clarity, a sense of drive, and to move forward, to press on in our great mission ahead, wishing you all the best and Hashanah Toba.
